BIBS

Many years ago I made bibs for baby gifts. I used an over sized hand towel and cut a hole at one end and then put ribbing in to finish the neck.
Then I would applique a picture on the body of the towel. It made for a cute gift.
Now this idea has come full circle. A few of my friends are now caring for their parents and have asked if I would make bibs for them.

This is the latest set of bibs.

The person I made these for cared for others who were ill or needing special care, She did this for most of her life, so I made a jar with hearts -- then I made a Sunday best with pearls -- and one of her favorite things is butterflies. I hope these bring a smile to her. :o}

A few weeks ago I got brave and emailed Gutermann Threads in hopes of picking them up as a sponsor for my blog. (Gutermann is just about the only thread I use on my home machine) They told me that they get way too many of this type of request. So it was not meant to be. However, they did send me a box of thread.

Thanks Gutermann!

Hope you have a great day. :o}

Safe Haven BOM

Each year the quilt group that I go to -- decides on a project to work on. Often we choose a project that benefits the community. This year we decided to do something a little different we decided on a block of the month project. We started with the book "Big Book of Quilt Blocks" from Thimbleberries (we all happen to have the same book so it worked out well) And the quilt we decided on was "Safe Haven" The first block was due in October. (yes I had mine done on time I'm just posting late.) :o}

I saw this quilt several years ago as a block of the month in a quilt shop in Salt Lake and picked up the instructions for a couple of the blocks. Then a couple of years ago Sheri said go buy this book we're making a quilt out of it. (well that didn't happen) Now-- I finally get to make this quilt. Yea!
All of us are trying to use fabric's from our stash. Only purchasing fabric if we need to fill in. So far so good, we will see as the quilt moves on.

Hope you have a great day. :o}

Ferdie is ready for Halloween

The other day he came into my sewing room to help me.
And started to play with the scraps. I decided to help him out a bit.

He's going as the mummy cat.

Schnibbles project 2

My "Cindy Lou Who" is done.

This one took me a minute or two to decide on what fabrics to use. But once the fabrics came out and the decision made, the project went together easy peasy.

I wanted something bright and fun. So I went with primary colors. And I added another border to make it a little bigger. I think some little girl will like this just fine. :o}

Hope you have a great day. :o}

Reflecting back over the year

Oh! I know we still have two months to go before this year is done. But I have been thinking about all that has gone on with this year. Back in January Susie Orman said "2009 will either make you or it will break you". I'm happy to say so far 2009 didn't break me [it came close] I think I have learned a lot this year, and I hope shared with or maybe helped someone along the way.

I have had fun doing the BOM's. I'm excited to get the last two months so I can finish my projects. (However, I will be sad to see them come to an end. It's been fun getting the surprise each month.)

I have found a couple of projects for next year. I will be doing the "Year of Schnibbles" and the quilt group I go to has decided to do a block of the month. I will be posting on those soon. Also, I have another project I might be doing -- But, first I have to do some checking to see if we have a need for it in my area. (more later). I'm on the look out for one other project to do this next year.

The other day I went blog hopping and stopped at Sarah's The last piece
And found something interesting. (Sarah is from Australia -- I would love to go there some day. :o} ) Sarah is doing the "Pay it Forward" program. I found this same thing on a couple of other blogs as well and thought I would bring it home and try it out.

Here are the rules:

1. I will make a little something for the first three people who comment on this post. (Please send me an email with your mailing address so I can send the gift sometime within the next 365 days) It will be a surprise and it will arrive on your doorstep when you least expect it!

2. I will have 365 days to do it in.

What's the catch? to get the handmade gift from me, you have to play too.

3. You must have a blog.

4. BEFORE: you comment here, you must post your "Pay it Forward" on your blog to keep the fun going, and display the "Pay it Forward" button. (just copy the button and put it on your blog you can even copy the rules and paste them to your blog as well)

I look forward to hearing from you.

I hope you have a great day. :o}
