Tyler

Last night was a very hard night. I took my Tyler to the vet and found out that he was very sick. He had developed diabetes and was not in good shape. The vet said I would have to give him 2 shots a day. Tyler was almost 14yrs old. and I know I would not be able to give him shots nor did I want him to be afraid of me because I would be poking him with needles. so I made the hard decision to put him down. (Many tears right here)

Tyler was the best companion

-- loved to play and snuggle -- enjoyed a good quilt.

He will be missed...

Ferdie and Tyler

It's been awhile since I posted pictures of my 4 legged companions so I thought I would share a few pictures.

This is Ferdie relaxing in front of the pellet stove -- I think he's in heaven at this moment -- all toasty and warm. :o}

When I was in the middle of all the packing I turned around and found both Tyler and Ferdie in the buffet. I think they were trying to say don't forget to take us with you. ;o}

This is my new room --I purchased an antique bed frame -- unfortunately it wasn't a standard size frame so all I could use was the head board. it's made of maple and made around the 1920's. I found Ferdi sitting on the little dresser in the corner. he sat there for over an hour.

we have a very small patio (we're on the second floor) I asked my brother if he would make screens for me and he did a wonderful job. now Ferdie and Tyler have another place to hang out in our small "doable" apartment. ;o}

Ferdie and Christmas

Each year at the Work Christmas dinner we have a gift exchange most of the time the gifts are white elephant or re-gifted items.

Well this year the gift I received was a Christmas village that lights up.. So I took it home and plugged it in -- the next time I looked that direction Ferdie was checking it out.

It almost looks like he's looking in the window at the party going on inside. ;o}

Entertaining Ferdie

Over this past year I have been amused by watching Ferdie entertain himself here are a few pictures of things he found to do.....





We have a pellet stove and as the pellets drop into the burn pot -- they send up sparks (behind glass door) so I guess it's like a fire works show for him.





In December 08 and January 09 we had all that bad weather and the news would run the ODOT camera showing the cars go by -- Ferdie thought that was great fun.



In my sewing room I have a little storage drawer that has plastic drawers. From what I can guess he sees his reflection the plastic drawer and thinks there's something in there....



Do worry it's clean.... He just likes to watch the water bubble and swirl....

Ready for Halloween

The other day he came into my sewing room to help me.
And started to play with the scraps. I decided to help him out a bit.

Finding Ferdie

One of the things I like to collect is bears. (the stuffed variety) I like brown bears, but mostly polar bears. OK now to the point. In my sewing room I have a cabinet that I store my supplies and quilt items I have for sell or giving away. On top of the cabinet I have some of my bears, look'n cute. Well a couple of times now I have found some of the bears on the floor. Now this is a six foot tall cabinet. And I could figure out how they where finding their way to the floor. (I did suspect but couldn't prove it until the other day) :o}

When I walk in my sewing room this is what I saw.

Now can you see him -- yup that's right it's Ferdie.
The funny thing is those bears are just about
the same size as Ferdie I wonder if he thinks
they're cats like him?

After a few pictures Ferdie sat up as if to say. OK ya found me.

A New Cat in the House

A staff member brought a mama cat and her baby to work wondering if someone would like them.


Here they are, cute don't you think? Look a little closer they're not real. ;o}

I said I would take them just to see what Ferdie and Tyler would do.

Ferdie is trying to get her attention just to say hello!!



He tried to get her attention by playing with her tail -- that always gets Tyler's attention -- but nothing.

Then Tyler stopped by to say hi. And checked out her ear. But no response. After that they pretty much left her to nap. (I took the mama and her baby back so the next staff member could take her home to see what happens there.)

Hide and Seek

Last week I had a quilt job and I needed to get the back ready to take to the long arm. I had it out and working on it when Tyler and Ferdi decided to play hide and seek. Can you tell whose hiding?




Well here's a hint .... :o}

Tyler was on the back side of the quilt...

And Ferdie was on the front side.

It was fun to watch. OK now back to work...

A Few Cat Pictures

I wanted to share a few pictures of my cats. A few end weeks ago I stayed up a little late checking on my blogs friends. Tyler came in to check on me and decided to curl up in this little cubby on my desk and wait for me to finish and go to bed. :o}


The other day I had a finishing job. A friend asked if I would do a binding for her. Sure no problem. While I worked on it, Tyler decided to test the quilt and insisted on crawling inside the folds of the quilt. This quilt has his approval. :o}

Every so often my cats find hiding places to curl up in to take naps. Sometimes they hide real good. I like to find their hiding places just in case of an emergency. I had to hunt awhile to find Ferdie's hiding place. :o]

Do you know where he is? He's behind the entertainment center, amongst all the wires and plugs. It must be warm back there. :o}

Sleeping

Let sleeping dogs lie. Do you ever remember hearing that old saying. I do, I'm not really sure what it means. And I don't have any dogs, but I have cats. :o} And they like to sleep a lot. I started noticing all of the different places they curl up and take a nap. So I took a few pictures.


One of Tyler's favorite places to nap is my ironing board. I think he thinks he's helping me with my projects. And Ferdie just wanted to be close by.

The thing that is so unusual about this picture is that Yellow is in it. She is not the most friendliest of cats. And she wants little to do with Tyler and Ferdie. But it was cold outside and this is the warmest place in the house.

This is another place Tyler likes to snooze. It's nice to see both of them napping together. Ferdie is the little brother of the bunch and he's always bothering (Tyler starts the playing too).

This last picture was a surprise. I came walking through one day and found Ferdie way up high. I think it might be warm up there so he figured it would be a nice place to snooze.

I'm ready to go quilting

The first week of February I spent four days at the long arm (I got 6 projects and one job done :o} ). Anyway I packed my bag Saturday and put it on the table so when Monday came I would be ready to go. As I came through the dinning room I found Ferdie on top of my bag trying to take a nap. It was like he was saying. I'm ready to go with you. :o}



Tuesday I took my supply case out to get it ready to go for the next day at the long arm. I just turned away for a minute and found Ferdie sitting in my case. It was like he was trying to say. "I can fit really. Let me go I wont be any trouble promise".

No Longer a Visitor

Last Monday Chikako came over to work on a project for daughter #2. While she was working away, Ferdie made his way over to her. I warned her he was ready to jump, she braced herself. And sure enough he jump to her shoulder and then started to play in her hair. (It's fine until Ferdie starts biting your head} :o{ Anyway Chikako asked, if that meant she was no longer a visitor. Yup you're a part of the family. :o}
During our winter in December we had so many power outages that we finally left extension cords out ready for the next one to come. As I passed through the living room, this is what I saw. Tyler and Ferdie look like they're waiting for the next outage too.

I'm so glad Spring is on it's way.

It's in the bag!

Each year my church makes 5 quilts for the Bishop's Storehouse. It is my assignment to make sure this happens. For the first 3 years I made the tops and then the women at church came together and tied them. Then in 2007 I became a part owner of a long arm, so in 2008 I decided to ask different women to make the tops and then I would quilt them on the long arm. That worked out well so I did the same thing for this year. So far two of the tops have been completed. One of the tops was done by Chikako H's #1 daughter (she needed a service project). When she completed the top she gave it to me in a brown bag. I brought it home and put it on the table. When I came back through the dinning room this is what I saw. Later that day my son said mom look at the picture I took. I told him yup that looks like the one I took. The next day when I came home my husband said I took a picture of Ferdie in the bag. I said yup that makes three :o}. It's all in the bag!.

Just as a side note when I get the 5 quilts quilted for the Bishop's Storehouse I will post them so you can see. So far they're turning out great.

Winter Project

I decided through all of the snow and cold weather I needed a project to work on. So I picked this little wall hanging. This is an Art to Heart pattern. And I have it hanging in my entryway. It was an easy project and worked up in no time. I think this is the way I like snowmen. No melting and no mess. :o}
As you can see I put buttons on one of the snowmen, I had to get the button box out and that meant I had an instant helper.

Ferdie tried real hard to be goood and only look.

Oh! look, this button will look good on your project. I think I can get it for you.

Yup, here it comes. Did I do good. Yes, Ferdie you did good. Now if only you could help me pick up all of the buttons. :o}

Brrr it's cold outside

I think winter has decided to visit the Northwest. Two nights ago it got down to 15 degrees and last night around 18 degrees. The last time it got that cold was 1979. Right now it's snowing. We might have a white Christmas. That's something that only happens once it a while. I think for the thirty years I've been in Oregon, I've seen about 5 or less white Christmas' here.

I wanted to show you this picture. Last year was Ferdi's first Christmas and he just couldn't leave the tree alone. He finally climbed it around the 15th. This year he's thought about it but no climbing yet. He's had more fun playing with the tree skirt and the ornaments at the bottom of the tree have taken a beating.

Ferdi and Thread spools

OK so here's the thing....

I came home one day and found a spool of thread in the dinning room. I thought that's odd. So I picked it up only to find a trail of thread, as I wound the thread back onto the spool it led me back to my sewing room. No surprise there. But what was odd was that my sewing machine was still threaded. I thought how did Ferdi do that. Well I got my answer a few days later when I saw Ferdi up to his tricks.



So now I keep the top of my sewing machine closed and I keep a couple of empty thread spools on my sewing table. That way Ferdi can play with the empties and we're both happy. What will he try next?... :o}

Tyler and Ferdi helping me sew

I wanted to show you how my cats help me sew. They do a good job of helping and keeping me company. When I'm hand sewing or doing finishing work. Tyler is usually on my lap. Or if I'm working on a larger project he's in the folds of the quilt.

Now Ferdi on the other hand has his own way of helping me. This is something he started on his own. He gets up on my shoulders, usually by jumping and then plays in my hair and lays on my head or across my shoulders. I don't mind so much until he starts biting my head then I have to say enough. It makes life interesting.

Tyler and Yellow

I found this picture I took a few years ago. At one time my scrapbooking desk was in the laundry room. I happened to be working on pages when Yellow decided to investigate the dryer. And Tyler was checking to see what Yellow was up to. It almost looks like Tyler is telling Yellow that it's a fun ride, Just try it you might like it.
